ATS has been awarded of the contract for the renewal of the flue gas treatment Créteil WtE (France)

The Syndicat Mixte Intercommunal de Traitement des Déchets Urbains du Val-de-Marne (SMITDUVM) awarded to SUEZ, in partnership with DALKIA Wastenergy, through the dedicated company Valo'Marne, the concession of works and the exploitation of the Créteil Waste to Energy (WtE) plant for a period of 20 years and a cumulative turnover of approximately 900 million euros. 


This new contract provides for numerous innovations contributing to the improvement of the energy mix and the environmental performance of the site, as well as to the development of the territory's circular and solidarity-based economy. In addition, the Waste to Energy plant will benefit from the latest "smart" technologies applied to the industry over the next three years.

An innovative plant, source of multiple energies 


The project provides for the increase of the plant's energy production capacity, starting from waste, to allow on the one hand to support the development of Créteil district heating network as of 2020, and on the other hand to provide municipalities members of the SMITDUVM with green electricity. 

SUEZ, in partnership with DALKIA Wastenergywill also provide concrete responses to citizen expectations in order to reduce the environmental footprint and improve air quality, with:

the use of a transfer dock in Champigny-sur-Marne to optimize the flow of collection vehicles and reduce the associated carbon footprint; 

- the production of hydrogen from the WtE to recharge its own vehicles, a first in Europe; 

the installation of a carbon sink pilot to collect CO2 through microalgae;

- the realization of a dry flue gas treatment system in order to increase the energy performance of the plant;

- the reduction of NOx emissions up to values as low as 50 mg/Nm3;

- the construction of the 3rd line that will allow the unit to treat up to 345.000 tons of waste each year, that means an increase of the plant capacity of 120.000 tons on a yearly base, with a rise of the energy production performance.

 

Valo’Marne, a new flue gas treatment unit that is more performant and efficient 

« The idea is to continue in reducing pollutants emissions », summarizes SUEZ. The « pollution rate » of Créteil WtE will be the half of the authorization permit.


The flue gases will be purified by an electrofilter that collects the dust, then treated with bicarbonate and activated carbon and filtered to capture acid gases, heavy metals and dioxins. A catalytic reactor will then neutralize the nitrogen oxides. The gases will be analyzed continuously during all the different stages of their treatment in order to check the quality of the purification process. The thermal energy contained in the gases will be recovered and valorized with an overheated water loop. This flue gas treatment technology will offer a remarkable energetic performance.

In order to achieve all this, SUEZ has entrusted ATS with the design and construction of the new flue gas treatment units, including the energy recovery system that will provide the heat for the district heating network.

 

Tomatoes made in Créteil 

SUEZ is committed to fostering local employment and integration with local stakeholders, and in particular with the support of the Maison pour Rebondir Grand Paris / Val-de-Marne, a structure created by SUEZ and dedicated to social and employment innovation.

The construction of an urban agriculture greenhouse of 4,500 m² allowing the production of heated tomatoes from the WtE Unit, then distributed in short circuit, will generate 6 jobs.

In addition, an innovative pedagogical course dedicated to the circular economy will be created around the installation, with the ambition to become a reference in terms of education for sustainable development in urban areas, on the scale of Greater Paris.
