ATS has been awarded of the contract for the realization of the new DeNOx SCR in the WtE plant of Saran (France)

The VEOLIA group is one of the world leaders in the optimized management of resources. With nearly 169,000 employees, VEOLIA designs and provides integrated solutions for the management of water, waste and energy to contribute to the sustainable development of communities and industries. In 2018, the VEOLIA group produced nearly 53 million megawatt hours of energy and converted 49 million tons of waste into new materials and energy.

VEOLIA’s approach to social, environmental and societal responsibility is integrated into its strategy, business model and durability. Its frame of reference is the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and it is guided by its nine sustainable development commitments. These commitments apply to all the Group’s activities in all countries and to all its employees. The aim is to achieve the ambitious goals that have been set for 2020:

1. Sustainably manage natural resources by encouraging the circular economy.
2. Contribute to combating climate change, by achieving 100 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent of reduced emissions and 50 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent of avoided emissions, over the 2015-2020 period.
3. Conserve and restore biodiversity.
4. Build new models for relations and value creation with our stakeholders.
5. Contribute to local development.
6. Supply and maintain services crucial to health and human development.
7. Guarantee a safe and healthy work environment.
8. Encourage each employee’s professional development and commitment.
9. Guarantee that diversity and fundamental human and social rights are respected within the company

It was precisely this drive towards a circular economy and innovative solutions that pushed VEOLIA to secure the renewal of the Saran's waste-to-energy plant management contract. Contract within which a reduction of 5 times the quantity of nitrogen oxides is foreseen, thus reducing, in a decisive manner, the impact of greenhouse gases and their relapse in the surrounding areas.

View of Saran's WtE plant

Saran's Waste to Energy (WtE) plant is composed by two incineration lines, in particular there are:

  • 2 gratings L1 and L2, with a capacity of 2 x 7 t/h with a PCI 2.200 kcal/kg
  • 2 boilers for recovery energy
  • 2 flue gas treatment composed by DeNOx SNCR, ESPs, fabric filters with injection of sodium bicarbonate and activated carbon,

With this scheme VEOLIA decided to award ATS with a contract for the realization of new DeNOx SCR "low dust" that will be installed downstream existing ESPs. Under those condition, in fact, it will be possible to:

1. Allow a continuous service without thermal regeneration: the temperature above 280°C will permit, even considering that at this point the treatment of SOx is not done, not to have any deposition of ammonium bisulfate.
2. Avoid erosion phenomena due to the presence of the ESP upstream.
3. Allow an high neutralisation yield, in fact, following VEOLIA's request, ATS guaranteed an emission limit that is one of the lowest values around Europe!
